Book Review; Turn the Ship Around!

One of the best books on leadership ever?

Book review; Turn the Ship Around!; A True Story of Turning Followers into Leaders
Author; L. David Marquet

When I am looking at potentially recommending a book, for me the value of the book is not only the lessons I learn but also the experience of reading it.
And this book is, great.

Surprisingly, I had never heard of it before I had it recommended #, but I see now that USA Today once listed it as one of the top 12 business books of all time, and rightly so!

Presented as a true story, the author takes us through his own experiences as a commander of a nuclear-powered submarine in the US Navy.
What I enjoyed here is not only the tools he implemented to get outstanding results, but the author has a refreshing way of not only bragging about himself as authors have a tendency to do.
Indeed, he is happy to admit his own flaws throughout the book, and show where others have influenced the processes on the way. He also takes time to highlight results from some of his staff. How often do we actually see "the hero of the book", give credit to others?
For me, it ensures that the book is not a "how to" book for any leader in any organisation, but a good inspiration that any leader (and employee!), should be able to read and try to relate to their own organisation and challenges.

Keywords;
Empowerment, intent-based leadership, communication, people.
